Khabib Nurmagomedov is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters to have ever stepped inside the octagon. The Russian lightweight who is a former UFC champion has amassed an undefeated record of 29-0 which includes big wins over the likes of Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier and many others.
After having a terrific career as a fighter, Khabib has made a transition into becoming a coach and has done extremely well in this aspect. This has been possible due to the guidance of his AKA coach Javier Mendez and a great teammate in the form of Daniel Cormier.
Hence it is needless to say that the Russian lightweight is aiming to achieve the same kind of success in coaching as he did as a fighter. Khabib Nurmagomedov posted a video on his YouTube channel which showcases his life as a fighter and coach. In this episode, Khabib’s coach Javier Mendez narrates an interesting story of The Eagle’s first coaching experience.
“We work the first corner together and we go in there and he’s like blah blah blah and I didn’t get a word. I didn’t get a word in. After the fight he goes coach how did I do. I go well you did okay except you didn’t let me talk. I didn’t get to say anything. He goes oh sorry.”
Major credit goes to coach Javier Mendez for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s evolution as an unstoppable force in the UFC as he helped in improving The Eagle’s decision-making in fights.
Coach Javier Mendez is impressed with the growth of Khabib Nurmagomedov as a coach
Javier Mendez who is the head coach of AKA is undoubtedly one of the best trainers in the history of MMA. Former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is also on the verge of becoming a great coach and Mendez is highly confident that the Russian will be able to reach new heights.
While speaking in Khabib’s Legacy series, Javier said that he was impressed with The Eagle’s growth as a coach and reckons that he does not have to explain a lot about guiding fighters.
