The fans of Conor McGregor should expect the “Old McGregor” for the trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier. Going into the rematch with Poirier, there was no bad blood between these two lightweight elites. However, there will be bad blood when McGregor steps into the octagon to avenge his loss at UFC 264.
And from the recent comments of Conor McGregor, it’s pretty obvious that he is coming to make a statement on July 12th. As the anticipation among the fans rises, Conor McGregor sends a message to his rival, Dustin Poirier predicting a flawless victory at UFC 264. McGregor tweeted:
“July 10th I will do this absolutely flawlessly. We have these clowns sussed and fully! They wanna play a game of tactics? No problem, see you there. You’ve awoken a beast. A beats with the backing of a much higher power! Say your prayers.”
There will be high stakes at Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier 3
Though Conor McGregor seems motivated to get back in the winning column at UFC 264 it’s not going to be an easy task for him. We can say that McGregor was winning the first round but that was the game plan of Dustin Poirier coming into the fight.
McGregor is lethal in the early rounds. If Poirier can survive the early rounds or nullify McGregor’s striking by initiating clinch exchanges or takedowns then he will have a big chance to beat McGregor again.

Besides that, McGregor will be going into the trilogy with a tremendous amount of pressure on his shoulder. This loss will detect what McGregor does next after UFC 264. A loss for McGregor will seriously damage his star power in the fight business. Though he will still be the biggest name in UFC he won’t be a top title contender in the lightweight division.
Similarly, a loss will have a huge impact on Dustin Poirier’s UFC career as well. Though Poirier was the interim lightweight champion he was unable to capture the undisputed lightweight title. Poirier could have fought for the title at UFC 262 but he chose the trilogy fight with Conor McGregor. And if he loses at UFC 264 then Conor would go on to fight for the title and Poirier will have to fight his way back to the title shot.
Besides that, Poirier’s win over McGregor in the rematch will lose its significance as fans will claim that Conor was no at his 100% coming into the rematch and he is indeed the better fighter.
Both Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will enter the octagon at UFC 264 with a lot to lose. And these high stakes will certainly produce a barn burner between two of the biggest names in UFC at the moment.
