- The Suns are possibly using him to acquire LeBron James.
Bronny James’ case is slowly gaining traction as the days progress and the 2024 NBA Draft approaches. So far, the 19-year-old has worked out at the LA Lakers facility, a team that’s already interested in uniting him with LeBron James. But recently, numerous reports have claimed that Bronny turned down at least 10 workouts with various besides the Lakers and Phoenix Suns.
Bronny James was scheduled for 10 workouts with NBA teams, but he’s declined all of them except two: Lakers and Suns, per @ShamsCharania on @RunItBackFDTV.

The Suns are scheduled to conduct a workout session very soon with the USC point guard. At this point, it’s evident that the Suns have a deep interest in Bronny only to lure LeBron to Arizona. Phoenix and LA made first-round exits this season. Both teams are actively seeking to make changes in and around the roster. But even if Bronny makes it as the 22nd pick in the draft to Phoenix, how will he be beneficial to the Suns?
Bronny James could bring a little depth to the Suns’ roster
If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Bronny James from his NBA Draft Combine performances, the USC guard would make a standout role player. But he still needs to prove a lot more before earning a recurring role on either a team’s starting or second unit. At the start of his career, Bronny would have to adjust to coming off the bench late in the rotation. The Suns cannot rely on giving him the roles that Royce O’Neale or Eric Gordon have right now.

During his time at USC, James only averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game. He will be required to double his scoring output to find a bigger role on any team. However, his defense, shotmaking ability, and athleticism are key points of his game. Bronny will help the Suns bring more depth to their roster.
The Suns need to prioritize utilizing more players
It was obvious that the Suns barely used the talent they had while Frank Vogel coached the team. Players like Bol Bol and Josh Okogie would have provided great defensive minutes during the first round of the playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves. In case they draft Bronny James, they can add him to the tail end of the rotation and give these few players more time on the floor.
Isaiah Thomas can also be given a lot more time while Bronny takes up his position on the roster. Thomas only made six appearances for the team during the regular season averaging 1.3 points in 3.2 minutes per game on 50% shooting. In case they bring him off the bench as their sixth man, Thomas will certainly be able to produce better numbers considering the amount of experience he carries with him.
