SUMMARY
- Angelique Cauchy is French professional tennis player.
- Cauchy alleged that she was s*xually assaulted by her coach over 400 times.
Former French tennis player Angelique Cauchy gave a testimony of her horrifying ordeal at the hands of her coach, Andrew Geddes. He s*xually assaulted Cauchy several times whilst she was growing up. Geddes was eventually sent to prison for 18 years for assaulting young girls, most of whom were minors.
Cauchy addressed the National Assembly (AN), the first chamber of the French Parliament recently. Earlier this year, an inquiry was launched to investigate this sickening matter, where minors were raped repeatedly. It was initially labeled as ‘isolated behaviors’ but the reality was different.
Although Geddes was sentenced to prison in 2021, Cauchy only reported her case in July this year. Angelique was ranked number two in the junior tennis rankings when the assaults began.
“My coach, Andrew Geddes, r*ped me more than 400 times in two years. He started by verbally attacking me. I tried to defend myself and asked him to stop, repeating, day after day: ‘Don’t touch me, that’s not right. I do not want. Cynically, the coach would respond: ‘Don’t worry, this happens very often between coaches and young girls,’” testified Cauchy (via euro.eseuro.com).
The horrors did not end for Cauchy, as the assaults continued even when they were away on a 15-day camp. Angelique gave a vivid description of what followed next. Geddes had instructed her to go to his room and when she did not, he went to hers. Andrew r*ped her thrice a day.
Angelique Cauchy alleged that the higher-ups of the French Tennis Federation were aware of Geddes’ actions. However, they chose to turn a blind eye to the suffering of young girls.
Angelique Cauchy brought forth a deeper problem
The former tennis player accused the president of Sarcelles Club of knowing what Geddes did to his wards behind closed doors. She further added a few of the directors of the French Tennis Federation were also aware of what was happening. Nobody batted an eye.
Angelique stated that the president of the club let Geddes continue assaulting minors because he was winning trophies. “It was known in the tennis world that his behavior with young girls was not correct. When a woman complained to the club president, the answer was, ‘Yes, but he brings us titles’,” said Cauchy.
Angelique Cauchy is one among many women Geddes r*ped. Her story highlights the horrifying realities that women face in sports. The results of this investigation will come out in December.
