Draymond Green recently responded to the claims made by Rasheed Wallace regarding a potential matchup between the 2004 Detroit Pistons and the 2017 Golden State Warriors. As some NBA fans might be aware, Wallace is a former NBA star who spent several years of his career as a member of the Detroit Pistons.
On the other hand, Draymond needs no introduction and has been on the Warriors for his entire career so far. During a recent podcast, Wallace made certain statements when comparing his former team to the Golden State Warriors. That urged Draymond to respond in a public fashion using social media. With that being said, let us take a closer look and find out more.
Rasheed Wallace claims that the Detroit Pistons would dominate the Golden State Warriors with their defense
All of this began when Draymond Green went on Shaquille O’Neal’s podcast. Both of them discussed how the peak Golden State Warriors would fare against other great teams in NBA history. To no real surprise, Draymond believed that the Warriors were the best of the best and could defeat any other championship team.
Wallace managed to win the 2004 NBA championship with the “Bad Boy” Detroit Pistons. After hearing Draymond’s confidence and declaration of the Warriors’ superiority and dominance over other teams such as the 2004 Pistons, Rasheed called out Draymond and stood by his former team.
“We would’ve beat the sh*t out of [the 2017 Warriors] because for the simple fact that they couldn’t match up with us at any position… Steph [Curry] not a defender… Draymond [Green] is too little.”

The former Pistons star claimed that the defensive-oriented Detroit team would be able to contain the Warriors’ offense. Moreover, he also stated that no player on the Warriors was good enough to guard the former members of the Pistons.
Given that the 2017 Warriors managed to crush LeBron James in the NBA Finals and cruised to a championship, Wallace’s claims were not accepted blindly. Additionally, Draymond has a response in which he made his stance abundantly clear.
Draymond Green defends his team by pointing out that their advanced offense would destroy the Pistons
Since both these teams never played against each other, it is impossible to predict how a hypothetical matchup between them would go down. However, upon hearing Wallace’s claim that the Pistons could hold the Warriors to around 70 points, Draymond Green could not control himself and voiced his thoughts.
“Sheed we would’ve smacked yall. Yall was scoring 72 points per game. That’s not winning a half. And we putting you and them big ass forces in every pick and roll. Let’s see you move them feet. That one ring was great though big bro. We all appreciated it!”

Perhaps Draymond has a valid point in this case. Even if the Pistons were considered an elite defensive team during their era of basketball, it would be improbable for any of them to claim that they could shut down the Kevin Durant-led Warriors given the amount of formations and strategies that modern basketball utilizes. In any case, fans are left free to decide for themselves on which of these former teams could win in a matchup.
