The Houston Texans have one of the best rookie quarterbacks in the league currently in C.J. Stroud. They picked him up in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft as the 2nd overall pick. However like all good teams, they need a strong backup quarterback in case their starting quarterback gets injured. And the Texans have exactly that in Davis Mills.
Davis Compton Mills is a quarterback who plays for the National Football League (NFL) team the Houston Texans. Mills played college football for Stanford University. He was picked up by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft as the 67th overall pick. Davis Mills is currently the backup quarterback of the franchise.
Case Keenum is further down the line behind Davis Mills, who was named the starting quarterback of the Houston Texans in his rookie year itself. Mills did justice to the responsibility thrown his way as he set the record for the most rookie passing yards in the franchise’s history.
Davis Mills had an impressive college career with Stanford University as well. During the 2019 season he was second in line behind K.J. Costello. He completed 158 out of 241 pass attempts for 1,960 yards along with 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions. In the short lived 2020 season he completed 129 out of 195 pass attempts for 1,508 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions.
Houston Texans went with CJ Stroud as their starting quarterback before the start of the current season
Rookie C.J. Stroud was named the starting quarterback for the Houston Texans during the preseason. He started the starting game of the season against the Baltimore Ravens. This decision was made after Stroud had some impressive performances in the preseason especially against the New Orleans Saints.
It was a well known thing that the Texans would be picking up C.J. Stroud after getting the second pick in the draft. Although Davis Mills didn’t perform poorly in the preseason, completing 9 out of 12 attempts for 99 yards and a touchdown against the Patriots, the Texans had made up their mind. Mills said he didn’t do anything differently during the preseason. He was trying to become the best version of himself and let his game do the talking.

“I don’t think my approach has changed at all,” Mills said in a media conference. “I’m just…trying to be the best player and best person I could be for this team…every rep I get is making me better as a player, so it’s exciting. I’m coming in, putting my head down and showing what I can do,” he said.
The Houston Texans went down 15-13 to the Carolina Panthers last week. It was a head to head battle between Panthers rookie quarterback and the No.1 Draft pick, Bryce Young and Stroud. C.J. Stroud has been exceptional this season and is in the lead to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
