The draw for the highly anticipated 2023 Nitto ATP Finals has been revealed. It has set the stage for some thrilling tennis battles among the top 8 players in the world. Top seed, Novak Djokovic, the defending champion and the most dominant force in tennis, finds himself in the Green Group alongside home favorite Jannik Sinner, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Holger Rune.
Djokovic aims to secure his seventh ATP Finals title, surpassing Federer’s record of six titles at the season-ending finale. On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed, will lead the charge in the Red Group. His group includes Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, and Alexander Zverev.
Djokovic, who has been in scintillating form and lifted Paris Masters trophy the previous week is the frontrunner for the title. The most keenly awaited round-robin match in the Green Group would be between Djokovic and Sinner, who has been hitting the ball as hard as ever.

In the Red Group, Carlos Alcaraz makes his debut at the ATP Finals, having missed out last season due to injury. He would face two former champions Daniil Medvedev, the 2020 title holder, and Alexander Zverev, the winner in 2017 and 2021. One match in this group that will keep the spectators glued to their seats would be Alcaraz vs. Medvedev, a repeat of this year’s US Open semifinal.
Both groups featuring star-studded lineups promise an unforgettable ATP Finals filled with fierce competition and electrifying moments on the court. With Djokovic eyeing history and Alcaraz aiming to topple the Serbian, it’s a thrilling spectacle that tennis enthusiasts won’t want to miss. Stay tuned for this grand tennis spectacle set to go live from Turin on November 13!
Carlos Alcaraz’s odds to topple Novak Djokovic for year-end no. 1 ranking in ATP Finals
While Carlos Alcaraz’s aspiration to clinch the world’s No. 1 spot by the end of 2023 remains a lofty goal, it appears to be highly improbable but not ruled out theoretically. The primary obstacle standing in Alcaraz’s path to the no. 1 ranking is the resolute Novak Djokovic. Djokovic, who recently secured his seventh title in Paris, is poised to amass a formidable 9,945 ranking points.
In contrast, Alcaraz currently resides in the second position with 8,455 points, having a substantial 1,490-point deficit. The ATP Finals’ round-robin format rewards each victory with 200 points.
A journey to the final would secure an additional 400 points, and lifting the championship trophy would bring in another 500 points. This translates to a potential 1,500 points for Alcaraz if he sweeps the tournament by winning all his matches.

However, for him to seize the world No. 1 ranking, Djokovic would need to suffer a rare defeat by losing all his matches in the event. Given the rarity of such an occurrence, Alcaraz faces a very remote chance of realizing his dream in 2023. Both players slotted into different groups, are unlikely to cross paths in their initial three matches of the tournament.
