- Rumors suggest that he is in talks with a new coach.
Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem is going through a rough patch. Following a spate of injuries, Thiem has not been able to find the rhythm to compete at the highest level just yet. With time running out, the Austrian star has allegedly hired a new coach to help him in the new season.
Since his debut in 2014, Thiem used to be one of the most consistent players on the tour. In 2020, he broke the stranglehold that the Big 3 had at Grand Slams by winning the US Open. An unfortunate wrist injury put the brakes on his career, and Dominic has been struggling ever since. He has struggled with consistency and has often crashed out of tournaments early, and his ranking has plummetted.
Thiem had a disastrous start to the season in Australia. He faced off against Rafael Nadal at the Brisbane International. The resurgent Spaniard defeated him in straight sets.

Thiem launched his campaign at the Australian Open, hoping to make a deep run. However, Felix Auger-Aliassime knocked him out in the first round itself. Following his bitter loss in Melbourne, Thiem confessed that he was reevaluating his career. He added that 2024 was his “last chance” to redeem himself. And it seems that he is taking steps that will pay off.
Thiem split ways with his former coach, and according to reports, his new coach is likely Mate Delic. The Croatian coach helped Borna Coric get his career back on track and win the Cincinnati Masters in 2022.
Dominic Thiem has not confirmed anything yet, but he will hope to improve under his new coach soon. He has shown glimpses of his former self, and his outing at the Davis Cup was solid. Thiem will try to keep this up as the season progresses.
Dominic Thiem fought a hard fight at the Davis Cup
The Davis Cup was recently underway in Ireland, as Austria took on the hosts and defeated them emphatically. Dominic had a strong outing, even though his opponent, Michael Agwi, gave him a tough fight.
The former US Open champion took on the Dubliner on the first day. Dominic broke Michael when the scores were tied at 2-2, and again at 5-5. Agwi responded by breaking Thiem immediately, and the first set went into a tiebreak.

Dominic held his nerve during the tiebreak, despite double-faulting at three-all, and then claimed the set. He quickly bundled up Agwi in the second set, winning his tie 7-6, 6-3.
Dominic Thiem will take heart from his victory against Ireland, and his participation was crucial to being eligible to compete at the Olympics later this year. He is set to return to the tour in March.
