Ons Jabeur is set to take on Elena Ryabakina in a battle of the heavyweight champions. Their quarterfinal clash will be one to watch out for since Jabeur is hoping to get revenge for last year’s defeat. Jabeur and Rybakina had faced each other in the Wimbledon final in 2022, where Rybakina emerged victorious.
In the post-match interview after handing Petra Kvitova a memorable defeat, Ons Jabeur said that she would be “going for revenge“. Last Year’s Wimbledon final between the two was memorable. Jabeur had claimed the first set but Rybakina came back strongly to win the match.
Jabeur was heavily favored by many to clinch the trophy and she was even the higher-ranked player between the two. Since winning the Grand Slam, Rybakina has made leaps and bounds and is currently ranked 3.

“I just want to win every match so I can see you the next day, so remember this because I’m playing Rybakina. It will be a difficult match,” she said. “I’m probably going for my revenge. It was a difficult final last year” the player added (via Reuters).
“You can see she’s like ‘boom boom’ all the time! There’s no mercy with her, so let’s see what’s going to happen,” Jabeur stated with a laugh. No matter the outcome, it will be an exciting match to watch. The two players will go head-to-head on Wednesday.
How is Wimbledon 2023 going for Ons Jabeur?
Jabeur has had a great Wimbledon run so far and the Tunisian will be looking for the momentum to carry her all the way through to the finals. It is still quite a ways away. She had taken on Polish player Magdalena Frech in the first round. She found a comfortable victory as Jabeur defeated Frech 6-3,6-3 in straight sets. It was a similar story for her second-round victory against Zhuoxuan Bai.
The third round saw Jabeur take on the Canadian Bianca Andreescu. The former was a set down against Andreescu but came back hard to make it to the next round where she face Petra Kvitova.
The Tunisian Jabeur cruised through her match against Czech player Petra Kvitova. It was fairly one-sided, as the Tunisian defeated 2-time Wimbledon champion Kvitova 6-0,6-3 in straight sets. Kvitova stood no chance as the Jabeur juggernaut rolled on.
She faces Rybakina next. While the match is yet to be played, she has found support from fans and counterparts. Bianca Andreescu wants to see her do well in the tournament. Fans want to see her face off against Wimbledon frontrunner Iga Swiatek. Swiatek has 4 major titles. Can either of them add a Wimbledon title to their names? We will find out soon enough.
