Former NBA star Brandon Jennings made a comparison between Donovan Mitchell and Malik Monk that fans are not taking too well. As most members of the basketball community should be aware, Mitchell is one of the top point guards in the league and is currently playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
On the other hand, Malik Monk ended this season with the Sacramento Kings and has been a sparkplug off the bench and provided the Kings with much-needed bursts of offense throughout the season. Although it could be considered unfair to compare players who have varying playstyles and positions, Jennings did just that and has been scrutinized by NBA fans for his opinion. That said, a closer look at the situation is required.
Jennings claims that the difference in minutes is why Donovan Mitchell is considered better
Since Donovan Mitchell has always been the starting point guard in whichever team he has played for throughout his career, one can understand why he has been given more playing time when compared to Malik Monk. Brandon Jennings pointed out that the gap in awarded playing time indicates that Monk could be a better player if he was given more minutes on the court.
“I think Malik Monk is better than Donovan Mitchell.”

“I’m looking at the draft class and I’m looking at certain people that’s in the draft class and you got guys like Malik Monk. I think Malik Monk is a better player than Donovan Mitchell just of the fact that if you look at the stats, Malik Monk is averaging 15 points and 5 assists and he’s only getting about 26 minutes. So if he averaged 34 minutes what the h*ll do you think he would be averaging?”
It is undoubtedly bold of Brandon Jennings to claim that Monk would be performing better than Mitchell if he was on the court for an additional 8 minutes per game. After all, Spida has averaged 26.6 points this season. Upon hearing Jennings’ stance, fans took to social media in order to make their feelings on this opinion very clear.
NBA fans call out Brandon Jennings for his questionable take
Since Donovan Mitchell has scored more than 70 points in a game this season and is the face of the franchise for the Cleveland Cavaliers, one can certainly understand why fans disagreed with Jennings and called him out for his controversial take. Some fans even went far enough to claim that he shouldn’t be allowed to discuss basketball-related issues, “Unplug those microphones and turn the lights off. Enough is enough.”

In any case, it is clear that the majority of the basketball community does not agree with Brandon Jennings and feels that he should think twice before making statements merely for the sake of doing so.
