This recently concluded Super Bowl 57 was a memorable one for many reasons. Not only did the Kansas City Chiefs make an incredible second-half turnaround, but we also saw Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin, make his return.
Previously, Damar suffered a cardiac arrest during the Bills’ match against the Cincinnati Bengals. At the time, many were devastated by the news and feared the worst for Hamlin. Thus, it appears that Hamlin is now in good health, but his choice of attire seemingly upset former NFL running back, Adrian Peterson.
On the occasion, the youngster wore a $3,150 Takashi Murakami “Travis Jesus” jacket to the big game on Sunday. Notably, the back of the jacket sports a crucifix with an altered head of Jesus on the cross. Naturally, Peterson, a devout Christian, felt offended by the jacket. Understandably, the artwork on the back of the jacket may hurt the religious sentiments of many.
For the most part, Peterson felt that the jacket was in poor taste and that Hamlin should be thanking God that he is still alive. Especially after the events of Hamlin’s cardiac arrest and his subsequent recovery, the 24-year-old should be more respectful, according to Peterson. Further, Peterson took to social media to let Damar know his thoughts on the matter and explain that he took offense to the jacket.
Adrian Peterson slammed for harsh behavior against Damar Hamlin after his jacket controversy
Similar to Peterson, there were others that felt the same way about the issue. However, former running back, Fred Taylor, advised Aridan to handle the matter in a more discrete and private way. Prior to this, Peterson took to Instagram, to share his thoughts on the matter and revealed that he has spoken to Damar about the outfit.
Here, Peterson clarified that his intention was never to judge Hamlin, but felt that the jacket was against his beliefs. Further Peterson reveals that, after speaking to Damar, he has understood that the jacket does not have ill intent, and wishes the Bills’ safety all the best in the future.

Although Hamlin’s jacket may have been in poor taste, many felt that Peterson’s response and behavior in this situation were too harsh. Taking into account everything that Hamlin has been through in the last month, folks would have liked the former player to have treaded a bit more nicely.
Currently, Damar Hamlin is yet to respond to Peterson publicly. As such, it will be interesting to see his take on the situation and what he made of Peterson’s comments. For the most part, people believe that the conversation should have been a private one and that Peterson should not be pushing his beliefs on other people.
