SUMMARY
- Speaking in a video, Chael Sonnen had a lot to say about Dana White's comments at the UFC 297 press conference.
- Chael previously stated that Khabib Nurmagomedov could make his return at UFC 300.
UFC 300 is only a couple of months away, and fans are growing impatient with the lack of news around it. Following the conclusion of UFC 297, UFC President Dana White also hinted at some news soon. However, in the meantime, Chael Sonnen believes that Conor McGregor is likely the ace up Dana’s sleeve.
Speaking in a recent video, Sonnen had a lot to say about Dana’s comments at the presser. As such, ‘The Bad Guy‘ stated, “Dana said at the (UFC 297) post-fight press conference, over the weekend, ‘Conor is not fighting in June’. For any of us that saw it and understood the context that led to Dana, saw the smile, the smirk, the body language, we came to the same conclusion. Conor is going to be fighting at (UFC) 300”.
Whilst Sonnen gave compelling reasons as to why it may or may not be Conor at UFC 300, anything he says must be taken with a grain of salt. After all, Uncle Chael previously stated that Khabib Nurmagomedov could make his return at UFC 300. Similarly, he also theorized a potential return for Brock Lesnar; however, both theories have been proven wrong already.
Dana White shot down the Conor McGregor fight announcement at UFC 297
With that said, there is a feeling that there could be some substance to Chael Sonnen’s recent statements. As he mentioned in his video, Dana White ruled out a June return for Conor McGregor. Despite the Irishman’s absurd announcement video on New Year’s Eve, he will not be fighting on June 29.
Specifically, Dana revealed to the press, “When Conor is ready to fight, you know we’ll announce it. That’s what we do.” Thus, as Sonnen indicates, White stated that Conor would not be on the June card, leaving the door open for a UFC 300 appearance. However, this too brings with it certain logistical problems as well.
Currently, UFC 300 has two title fights already, and McGregor will surely not be on anything but the headliner. As such, it makes it improbable to put ‘The Notorious One‘ as a non-title headliner for UFC 300 either. Although Uncle Chael has suggested that the former champ-champ could be shoehorned into a title fight, the UFC will likely refrain from doing so.
Dana White promised to reveal the UFC 300 main event this week
Following the post-fight press conference, there were a lot of talking points that emerged from it. Notably, many were questioning what the result of the UFC 297 main event meant for the future. As such, fans were all over the little tidbits dropped by UFC President Dana White. Interestingly, Conor McGregor was not the only big superstar he was quizzed about.
Notably, Dricus du Plessis called out Israel Adesanya after his win over Sean Strickland. Furthering the bitter feud that has been ongoing for quite some time, Dricus called for his ‘African brother’. Thus, Dana was also asked about Adesanya’s return date. “We’ll figure this out Tuesday, we’ll probably announce it next week”. Naturally, this, along with Izzy’s latest tease, has fans wondering if the fight could be made for UFC 300.

At the same time, it is expected that Leon Edwards vs. Belal Muhammad 2 will also be announced this week. Whilst there isn’t any doubt about the matchup, White has stated that the location for that fight will be revealed. Since a lot of fans do not wish to see that particular fight as the UFC 300 headliner, White and Co. likely have something different in store for us.
